RNZCGP Cornerstone Accreditation
The ‘Cornerstone’ quality programme is run by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP), aimed at achieving the best patient care. ‘Aiming for Excellence’ is the RNZCGP Standard for General Practice Care. It promotes a framework that incorporates three dimensions of quality; patients, professionals, practice.
- Patient quality assists practices and GPs to identify and act on outcomes of care
- Professional quality supports continual professional development to improve care
- Practice management quality identifies structures and processes to ensure general practices can deliver the best possible outcomes.
Five sections to provide guidance for practice teams to identify the right environment for patients:
- Factors affecting patients
- Physical factors affecting the practice
- Practice systems
- Practice and patient information management
- Quality improvement and professional development. Practice staff assess themselves against general practice standards set out by the College, and are then checked by independent assessors.
PRIME – Primary response in Medical Emergency Services
Oxford Community Health Centre meets stringent quality standards contracted by MOH(Ministry of Health)/ACC for PRIME services. The Primary Response in Medical Emergencies (PRIME) service aims to improve pre-hospital emergency care through the co-response of primary health care practitioners, with ambulance services, to emergencies in rural areas.

As part of the requirements to maintain professional registration, all our doctors and rural nurse specialists and practice nurses are involved in continuing education programmes, as well as peer review and practice review activities. We take seriously your personal privacy and the confidentiality of all your health information. When you enrol with a practice your medical record is held with that practice. Information from your medical file will not be disclosed to anyone else without your knowledge and approval. As part of our agreement with the PHO which helps fund your care, they have access to non-identifiable information for statistical uses. When you sign your enrolment form, you give your approval for this.
Please be aware that signing approval for an insurance company or other party to obtain information will allow them to get medical information about you from your medical record.
You are entitled to have a mutually acceptable third party present during internal or intimate examinations if you wish. You may bring a person with you, or we can provide someone such as a nurse, to act as a chaperone. Doctors also have the right to insist that a chaperone or third party be present, and may not conduct internal or intimate examinations if a patient refuses. In life-threatening situations these rights may be waived.
Transfer of notes
Under the Privacy Act, we must have a written request for transfer of medical notes to another practice. Please ask the receptionist at your new practice for a form.
