District Nursing Service
The District Nursing Service is funded by the Canterbury District Health Board and ACC & administered through the Oxford Community Health Centre.
The District Nurses provide care to patients of any age group, living within the boundaries of the Oxford Ward of the Waimakariri District Council to the west of Okuku River Bridge, Browns Road.
Service Provision:
-
Weekdays 8am-5pm.

Weekend & after-hours services are available by prior arrangement only.

No "emergency" care.
Nursing Staff:
-
Two registered nurses - Part-time - job sharing.

Two R/N relievers.
Care Provision:
Generalist and Specialist District Nursing Care in private homes in the community, including:

Assessment of patients health needs, the requirement for nursing and access to health care.

Education of patients and caregivers on:
-
Home nursing care.
-
Self-monitoring procedures (Eg. blood sugar testing).
-

Support services.
-
Palliative/terminal care for cancer & other health conditions.

Wound assessment & wound care.
-
Taking blood samples for patients unable to travel to their doctor's surgery or laboratory.

Stoma care.
-
Intravenous medication.
-
Medication assistance with the use of tablets & treatments.

Post-hospital discharge & convalescence follow up.
Referrals
Referrals to the service are accepted from:

Doctor's surgery.
-
Public & private hospital.
-
Community health support agencies.
-
Volunteer groups (eg. Cancer).
-
Support, stroke group etc.
-
Patients or their relatives.
